A Text to World Connection

Text to world connection is when you take events from a fictional story and compare it to real world events. The story of The Hate List can easily be connected to real world events. A great comparison is the Columbine shooting that took place in 1999, in Colorado inside the Columbine high school. This event was a very tragic to many families, killing 13 and wounding more than 20 kids. Also, another school shooting is Virginia Tech University. This shooting was very fatal, killing around 33 students. Showing how dangerous yet how occurring events like these happen, they don’t just take place in the United States either. This connects to The Hate List because, sadly, the school shooting that took place in the story is very realistic and shows what real life students have to live with and overcome in life after these horrible incidents that they are forced to be apart of. The book also gives a better look into the lives of kids and people who are part of incidents like this, it’s a great way of delving deeper and giving the audience a better understanding of how this effects people and how differently they handle it.
